Remembering the past or looking forward to what’s ahead, what are our thoughts dwelling on? In Isaiah 43:16-17 (NLT) the Israelites rehearsed many of the good things that God had done for them, and that was okay. But then God says this: “Forget all that, it is nothing compared to what I am going to do, for I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?” (vs 18 & 19a). God is asking us to look at the future through the eyes of His Spirit, that in fact, God has already started something new! Wow, He has already started, the sprigs of hope are coming up through the snow, through dry ground.
It’s okay for us to build our faith by rehearsing the goodness that God has done in the past, but let us not stop there. In verse 19b he continues by telling us that even if we feel that the path that we are on is in the middle of dryness, in wilderness, that He “will create rivers in the dry wasteland”.
Let’s trust that the same God that has done the miracles in the past is the very God that has already begun something new. Let’s not miss it.
Tom and I have been in the ministry for over 40 years, pastoring the Sunshine Hills Foursquare Church in Delta since 1982. We have four grown daughters who love the Lord, and together with their husbands have blessed us with 8 grandchildren. I have the privilege of serving on the National Board at this time, and have a heart to reach our nation of Canada for the Lord.
